Camp Sundown è un campo estivo creato per soddisfare i bisogni dei bambini malati di XP, le cui strutture sono completamente protette dai raggi ultravioletti. Dopo anni di ricerche e sperimentazioni Dan e Caren Mahar, genitori di Katie, una ragazza di diciotto anni malata di XP, hanno dato vita al campo e alla XP Society, associazione creata con lo scopo di fornire supporto psicologico e pratico ai malati di XP e ai loro parenti. Camp Sundown is a summer camp precisely created to fulfil the needs of children suffering from XP, whose structure is completely ultraviolet rays free. In years of research and experimentation, Dan and Caren Mahar, parents of Katie, an eighteen girl suffering from XP, have given birth to this facility and to the XP Society, association created with the intent of giving a practical and psychological support to those who suffer from the disease and their families. The camp is found in Craryville, in the state of New York, but it welcomes children from all over the world.

Nonetheless, after hesitating initially, we see her darting in company of other children, lowering herself in the pool, running on go-karts.

Her little brother and sister are both affected by XP. She has attended Camp Sundown and this experience has radically changed her mind: now She is struggeling for a better life.

Kevin was thirty-five when he died. He suffered from XP, no one ever thought he could have reached that age. He had undergone hundreds of operations to remove the tumours but had always kept the sunny nature of an Alabama boy. He was at Camp Sundown as a volunteer and helped everybody with great devotion. He is a sort of guardian angel for all the children with XP.
